Rigoletto  by Guiseppe Verdi

Sevenoaks Opera @ Stag Theatre, Sevenoaks, April 2003

Director: Russell Plows  Conductor: Trevor Edwards  Lighting Designer: John Port

A playboy Duke lives it up in his own personal themed hotel, each room having a different setting and colour. Anyone entering or leaving theses rooms take on the colour and costume that room entails. Each door off the stage has a round viewing window through which the colour of that room shines, and at the back of the stage the view through that window is magnified by a large iris that opens to reveal the action in the room. The main stage acts variously as the atrium of the palace and the street outside. Suspended light bulbs act as a grand chandelier in the Atrium and as the branches of trees caught by the lightning in Act III.
